For the first day of this second national confinement, life did not stop in Paris, where we see many more people than mid-March.

And the opening of Fnac, a major cultural goods and household appliance brand, is no stranger to this relative normality.

REPORTAGE

Surprise for the Parisians, Friday morning, who put their nose to the window on the first day of the second national confinement against the coronavirus: they could see passers-by, cars and streets much more animated and frequented than in spring.

Of course, this is a little less true in the regions.

But seen from the Montparnasse district, for example, Paris is not a dead city.

"Of the world", unlike mars

There, there is the noise of construction work, car horns and, earlier in the morning, the waves of workers leaving the subway and RER entrances.

Chantal "does not really" have the impression of being on the first day of national confinement: "Even on the train, there were people," said this resident.

For her, there is a real difference with the first day of spring confinement.

"Already, I came by car. There, I did not dare. There was no one on the road, no one in the streets. There, there are really people."

Chantal did not have a travel certificate with her, like many other Parisians met by Europe 1 on Friday morning.

Emmanuel Macron had spoken of tolerance.

For the first day of this containment supposed to drastically roll back the epidemic, he seems to have been taken at his word.

A basic reader?

In the Montparnasse district, in Paris, Fnac Darty has chosen not to close and to defy the ban on confinement, as revealed by Europe 1. The store of cultural products and household appliances continues to welcome customers, which astonishes the inhabitants of the district very much.

They slow down their stride as they pass the sign and some stop a little wary.

Sometimes these residents push open the store door, like Maria, who comes out with a big package: "I'm very happy, because we're already bored at home," she assures us.

"I'm happy to come and buy my DVD player so I can watch movies."

Is it a basic need?

"Yes, because I get depressed otherwise, it's not possible."

Others come out with the new CD of Francis Cabrel or the last Fifa on PlayStation.

Not sure, however, that the justification passes in the event of police checks.

Search for proximity and humanity

Martin, he bought a book in this sign by feeling a little guilty: "Let's say that it breaks the equality between the traders, for the benefit of the biggest structures", he admits.

"I took the opportunity to buy a book that I could have bought downstairs if the bookstore had been open."

Small businesses closed, the only alternative to Fnac Darty remains the Amazon merchant site.

Between the plague and cholera, Julien made his choice for the French group: "It's still a convenience store. It's like an important social link, while Amazon, there is nothing at the level humanity."

Humanity, there are also behind the drawn iron curtains of two independent booksellers closed 150 meters from Fnac.

They are still wondering how they will pay their rent at the end of the month.
