The Côte d'Azur Regional Tourism Committee (CRT) has done its accounts, and they are in the red… scarlet.

Plagued by the health crisis linked to the Covid-19 epidemic, the local tourism industry will accuse "more than 2.5 billion euros of losses" throughout the year, notes the mayor on Monday (LR) of Cannes David Lisnard, president of this organization.

"The heart of the summer season is not enough to compensate for the heavy losses in turnover for the year 2020: more than 2.5 billion euros in estimated losses, including 600 million euros in July and August", details the city councilor.

Lower expenses

The figures for the summer were encouraging, however, with an average occupancy rate of 56% in July and 81% in August, reaching a peak of 92% on August 12.

And more customers than ever from other regions of France.

But "the rapid relapse of tourist activity from the end of August, linked to the context of the return of sanitary tensions", such as "the large absence of international customers" and "a drop in spending, due to the withdrawal of foreign customers with strong purchasing power ”, did not make it possible to do better, points out David Lisnard.

Is the extension of the airport still necessary?
