Overnight stays (nights) in hotel establishments
fell by 78.4% in September compared to the same month of the previous year
, due to the outbreaks of late summer, the closure of some hotels that already gave up the season for lost and restrictions (quarantines ) from some European countries.
That, despite the fact that prices fell 13.4%.
This is reflected in the data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Hotel nights totaled 8.1 million and
were sustained thanks to national demand, that of residents in Spain.
This is the seventh consecutive month of falls for the sector, and
the worst month of the entire summer (July, August and September), since in June the drop was 95.1%, but there were still restrictions
on mobility between communities due to the alarm status.
In July the decrease was 73.4% and 64.3% in August.
It should also be taken into account that
the number of hotels open decreased in September
by 800 compared to August (from 13,008 hotels to 12,202).
It is 26.8% less than a year ago on the same dates.
National demand sustained the activity of the sector, with more than 2.8 million travelers compared to almost 600,000 non-residents.
A total of 3.4 million travelers stayed in hotels, with a total of 8.1 million overnight stays.
These figures represent 31.4% and 21.6%, respectively, of those registered a year ago.
