In September 2020, temporary work fell by 16.1% in France compared to September 2019, according to our information.

A slight improvement in figure compared to August but well below the expectations of market players.

The sectors most affected are services and construction.

Only logistics stand out, boosted by online commerce.

This is one more example of the labor market difficulties linked to the coronavirus health crisis: temporary work fell 16.1% in September compared to the same period last year.

A figure that Europe 1 reveals to you exclusively this Thursday.

It is characterized by the destruction of 125,000 full-time equivalent jobs over one year.

We note a slight improvement compared to August, where the decline amounted to -19.6%, but the trend remains "alarming" according to Isabelle Eynaud-Chevalier, general delegate of Prism'Emploi, the federation which brings together temporary employment companies.

If Prism'Emploi is particularly worried, it is because it expected a more frank recovery after confinement, where the interim had fallen by nearly 65%.

The recovery is therefore slower than expected and very disparate.

The services sector is the most affected.

From one month to the next, it stagnates around -25%.

And for good reason, it brings together in particular those involved in tourism, hotels and restaurants.

The rebound in the transport-logistics sector, the only positive point

Other sectors are proving fragile.

The building, for example, which, after an improvement, sees its hiring in interim collapse in September.

"In the construction industry, we had seen a catching-up phenomenon", explains Isabelle Eynaud-Chevalier.

"Quite simply because the construction sites were interrupted during the confinement and then the construction companies accelerated the delivery of their sites. As a result, between June and August, the figures for this sector were rather positive. And there, in September, it's the opposite. "

Only positive point: the rebound in the transport-logistics sector: + 7.7% after August at -11.8%.

According to the general delegate of Prism'Emploi, this recovery is due to the development of warehousing and postal sorting activities, boosted by the boom in online commerce.

The figures as a whole, however, remain "worrying", especially as they reflect the reality of September, in other words before the implementation of the curfew in several French cities.
