The network unveils smart software capable of translating 100 languages

Goodbye to «English» as a medium for translation between languages on «Facebook»

The "Facebook" network for social networking revealed a new automated software based on artificial intelligence, which it said would be the first to be able to translate 100 languages without relying on "English".

This open source software based on artificial intelligence was developed to help the social network improve the content it offers in 160 languages to its more than two billion users around the world.

"This achievement is the result of the accumulation of years of basic work for (Facebook) in terms of machine translation based on artificial intelligence," network research assistant Angela Fan said in a blog post.

She indicated that the new model has more accuracy than other systems, because it does not depend on the English language, as an intermediary for translation.

Fan added: “When translating from (Chinese) to (French), for example, most models centered on (English) work on translating first from (Chinese) to (English), then from (English) to (French), because Training data in English is the most available worldwide ».

She added, "Our model is directly translated from (Chinese) to (French) to convey the meaning more precisely."

And «Facebook» revealed that it is doing 20 billion translations daily on the tapes of events for users, expressing hope to provide better results in this regard, thanks to the new system.
