Accidents related to electric kickboards are increasing rapidly.

In particular, people on the road are often injured by electric kickboards, but in the future, automobile insurance will cover compensation.

As'personal mobile devices' such as electric kickboards are classified as'bicycles,' due to the revision of the Road Traffic Act, it becomes ambiguous whether or not to be compensated under auto insurance.

The Financial Supervisory Service has decided to revise the standard terms and conditions so that such'personal mobile devices' can be viewed as'uninsured vehicles' and can be clearly covered by the auto insurance that the person or family has subscribed to.

It will take effect on the 10th of the following month.

[Lee Jun-kyo/Financial Supervisory Service Insurance Supervisory Bureau Team Leader: If the perpetrator does not compensate the perpetrator, if the (pedestrian) makes a claim to the insurance company he subscribes to, the insurance company compensates first.

This is expected in the form that the insurance company makes a claim to the perpetrator.]

Victims can submit the accident confirmation document from the police station to the car insurance company.

You can get compensation up to 150 million won for death and up to 30 million won for injuries.

However, you cannot receive compensation for hit-and-run accidents where the perpetrator cannot be identified.

The insurance industry is already saying that electric kickboard accidents and insurance claims will increase significantly, and this could be a factor in increasing auto insurance premiums.

[Insurance industry officials: (From December 10th) Unlicensed driving is possible over the age of 13, so electric kickboard accidents are expected to increase.

As a result, there is a concern about deteriorating loss ratio.] As it

is a precautionary measure to use the car insurance of the victim, not the perpetrator, it seems necessary to improve the system, such as the mandatory insurance subscription for electric scooter drivers.
