Big Data Center: "Internet + Medical" database
As the core functional area of the National Health and Medical Big Data (Eastern) Center, the Big Data Center has a storage capacity of 55PB, a computing scale of 35,000 cores+, and a computing peak of 2340Tflop/s, ranking seventh in China and number one in the life and health industry.

What is the role of such a large amount of data?
"At present, under the guidance of the Provincial Health Commission, the Eastern Center has built a health statistics cloud platform for the Jiangsu Provincial Health Commission to meet the needs of our province in medical and health big data governance, mining, and scientific research." In September 2019, Nanjing Jiangbei New Area Smart Health Platform was officially launched, covering medical data of nearly 200 medical service institutions in Nanjing area and all residents of the directly managed streets in Jiangbei New Area. The gene sequencing platform of the National Health and Medical Big Data (East) Center is the largest gene sequencing center in Asia. It has 40 most advanced high-throughput sequencers in the world and more than 1,600 sets of laboratory equipment.

What effect does gene sequencing have on our lives?

Biobank: Ballast Stone for Innovative Research

In 2018, the National Health Commission approved Nanjing Jiangbei New Area to undertake the construction of the Jiangsu Innovation Center, a national human genetic resource sharing service platform, to promote the open sharing of biological sample resources.
At present, the Jiangsu Innovation Center has completed 21 genetic resource banks and 2.48 million samples have been submitted.
As the infrastructure support of the Jiangsu Innovation Center, the platform has built a -80℃ automated storage biological sample library with a sample storage capacity of 10 million copies.

The sample bank stores mainly blood, body fluids and other samples.
A QR code is printed on the bottom of each sample tube, which stores all the information of the sample, and the storage price is not expensive.
"The capacity of each sample tube is between 0.2-8ml, the most commonly used is 0.5ml, which costs only 10 yuan a year; there are 1.5ml, the price is 17 yuan a year." Xie Kehui introduced.
The construction of the biobank has also played a considerable role in promoting the centralized supervision and rapid import of high-risk materials.
As one of the 20 best practice cases of the State Council’s Office of Trade and Services in 2020, the platform will cooperate with the customs department to build a centralized supervision and rapid import platform for high-risk materials such as biological samples to achieve rapid customs clearance, centralized supervision and storage development of imported samples.
Specifically, under the guidance of Nanjing Customs and Jinling Customs, the platform simplified the approval procedures, built customs declaration, inspection and centralized inspection channels, and realized the “one-stop” innovative supervision service model of port release-platform centralized inspection-follow-up supervision.
