Tokyo Gas will start selling electricity for households within the jurisdiction of Hokkaido Electric Power Company and Chubu Electric Power Company.
With the liberalization of electricity retailing intensifying competition across industry and regional boundaries, we would like to expand sales by expanding the area.
According to the announcement, Tokyo Gas will start selling household electricity in the jurisdiction of Hokkaido Electric Power Company and Chubu Electric Power Company from the 15th, in addition to the existing jurisdiction of TEPCO.
For those who switch contracts from other companies, applications will be accepted through the special website of Tokyo Gas.
As of the end of June, the number of household gas contracts with Tokyo Gas was 9.04 million, a decrease of more than 1.2 million since the liberalization of household gas sales in 2017.
At the press conference on the 15th, Tokyo Gas Executive Officer Masayuki Kado said, "We would like to expand the area to the whole country except Okinawa and increase sales within the next year."
Regarding the retail of electricity, TEPCO is expanding its sales area nationwide except Okinawa, and competition across industry and regional boundaries is likely to intensify.
