Airbus had been producing A320 family planes for nearly 23 years.

Over the next eight years, it therefore produced as much as in more than two decades.

"This achievement testifies to the industrial and technical progress of Airbus and the popularity of the latest version of the Neo aircraft, which is even more efficient," said the aircraft manufacturer in a press release.

The A320 family remains the best-seller of Airbus which, despite the crisis, still has a well-stocked order book.

Of the 7,500 or so aircraft that make it up, more than 6,000 are from the A320Neo family.
