  • The 2021 Social Security budget was presented to the Council of Ministers.

  • It records a spectacular increase in spending and a fall in revenue.

  • This crisis budget will last for several years.

It is a big piece which is examined this Wednesday in the Council of Ministers.

The government is presenting the 2021 Social Security budget, which is already shaping up to be historic by the scale of the planned spending due to the coronavirus.

This year alone, the deficit is expected to reach 44.4 billion euros, eight times more than in 2019, and it will remain very high next year.

The Social Security “will sustain high deficits, certainly in excess of 20 billion, for several years”, acknowledged the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran at the end of September.
