Capital Airport West Runway overhaul completed this month

  During this "double festival" holiday, the capital airport west runway overhaul project is still under intense construction. According to the plan, the overhaul will be completed and put into operation in late October.

This is the first overhaul of the 43-year-old West Runway since the asphalt concrete was added in 2000.

  The introduction of "digital supervision"-Beidou navigation system for overhaul can realize the whole process monitoring of the production, transportation, paving and compaction of asphalt concrete, and its positioning accuracy can reach centimeter level.

After the overhaul of the West Runway is completed, its service life will be increased to 20 years, which is 5 years longer than the design life of the previous process.

A few days ago, a reporter from the Beijing News visited the site of the overhaul of the West Runway.

  Use new technology

  After overhaul, the service life is increased to 20 years

  Currently, the Capital Airport has three runways, namely the middle runway, the west runway and the east runway.

The West Runway was completed in 1977.

In 2000, Capital Airport made the first major repair of the west runway.

  Cao Cheng, head of the running and skiing engineering group of the capital airport's west runway overhaul series project, introduced that during the overhaul in 2000, the material used for the uppermost layer of the west runway was lake asphalt.

According to the engineering technology construction method at that time, the pavement service life is 15 years.

In other words, from a theoretical point of view, the West Runway has been "overdue service" after 2015.

  Although the service life is exceeded, the performance of the west runway is still very good, and the flatness can also meet the aircraft's take-off and landing requirements. However, with the extension of life, small cracks appear on the road surface.

  Cao Cheng revealed that this overhaul uses a number of new technologies, such as Beidou navigation and positioning technology, "smart track", asphalt concrete customization, etc. After the overhaul is completed, the service life of the west runway will be increased to 20 years, which is longer than the design life of the previous process. For 5 years.

  According to Cao Cheng, the current blind landing level on the west runway is a type 1 blind landing system, which means that the visibility is above 800 meters and the aircraft can land; after the overhaul is completed, the overall blind landing system on the west runway will be upgraded to type 2 with visibility It can land above 400 meters.

In order to cope with this upgrade, the C taxiway centerline lights were upgraded during the overhaul process, and the lights were encrypted to cooperate with the upgrade of the blind landing system on the west runway.

  "Digital Supervision"

  In this overhaul of the west runway, "digital supervision" was introduced, especially the Beidou navigation system during the digital construction process.

  At the scene, the reporter saw a mushroom-like probe installed on the roof or side of each construction vehicle, whose function is to receive Beidou navigation signals.

In this way, during the construction process, the whole process of asphalt concrete production, transportation, paving and compaction can be monitored, and the positioning accuracy can reach centimeter level.

  Cao Cheng said that after using Beidou navigation, engineering and technical personnel can monitor the working status of the paver in real time, and can quickly intervene once its operation does not meet the requirements to improve engineering efficiency and quality.

  This kind of "digital monitoring equipment (paver)" can also be equipped with various sensors and display platforms according to the characteristics of the asphalt paving process to obtain data such as paving temperature, thickness, and speed during paving. , Transmit to the cloud platform to realize the collaborative operation of the on-site fleet.

  Cao Cheng told reporters that any omission will lead to runway safety issues.

Take the paving temperature as an example. Some asphalt paving temperatures need to be above 160 degrees Celsius, and some need to be above 170 degrees Celsius.

Therefore, when the temperature sensor is installed on the paver, the asphalt temperature will be read by the sensor and uploaded to the background at any time, and the technicians can monitor in real time to achieve full monitoring of the construction process.

  "Black Weapons"

  Lake asphalt is added to the upper, middle and lower three layers

  The west runway has a total length of 3,200 meters, and 400 meters at both ends of the runway are adjusted from asphalt concrete pavement to cement concrete pavement.

Cao Cheng explained that the runway bears the greatest load during the takeoff phase, and the cement concrete pavement has high strength and good stability, which can better meet the needs of aircraft taking off and landing.

  In addition to the 400 meters at both ends of the runway for construction adjustments, the 2,400 meters in the middle of the runway are also very particular during the construction process.

  According to Cao Cheng, the overhaul of the west runway is divided into three layers of paving: the upper layer is 6 cm, the middle layer is 7 cm, and the lower layer is 8 cm, and each layer of asphalt has sufficient compaction.

During this overhaul, all the upper, middle and lower three layers were added with lake asphalt and mixed with the modified asphalt in proportion to significantly improve the asphalt performance.

  Compared with ordinary asphalt, the high temperature performance of lake asphalt has obvious advantages. It can ensure that the runway will not appear wheel rutting in summer, and wheel rutting is one of the most important factors that threaten the safety of aircraft operations.

According to Cao Cheng, lake asphalt is used on the pavement of Beijing city, such as the upper layer of the main road of Chang'an Avenue, the Third Ring Road, and the Fourth Ring Road. This time the Capital Airport will use this "black weapon" on the three-layer pavement Among the materials, the purpose is to further improve the performance of the west track.

  Capital Airport became the first airport in China to use lake asphalt on all three levels of runway overhaul.

  "Health" monitoring

  During the overhaul of the West Runway, engineers and technicians also put a complete set of "Dynamic Electrocardiograph" on the back of the runway.

This special "holter monitor" belonging to the runway is composed of very thin distributed optical fibers, sensors, detectors, etc., which are placed inside and on both sides of the runway surface.

This "holter monitor" can automatically transmit runway health to technicians 24 hours a day.

  Cao Cheng explained that the sensing equipment buried inside the pavement mainly monitors whether the runway pavement is deformed and whether there is "disease" such as voiding.

In addition, long-term data accumulation can also provide data support for when the West Runway will be maintained, when minor repairs, intermediate repairs, or even major repairs are needed.

  The detectors on both sides of the road surface can detect "uninvited guests" on the runway, such as stones, birds and other objects that threaten aviation safety, which is called the airport runway foreign object (FOD) detection system.

Cao Cheng told reporters that the foreign object detection system on the west runway is responsive. After actively discovering foreign objects invading the runway, it can issue early warning to the staff as soon as possible.

According to the early warning, field management personnel can go on the road in time to eliminate hidden dangers and ensure the safety of flights taking off and landing.
