[Explanation] On October 1, the Yangbajing-Lhasa section of the new reconstruction project of the G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway from Nagqu to Lhasa from Tibet was officially opened to traffic and entered the trial operation stage. The driving time was shortened from the original several hours to about one hour.

It is reported that the Yangbajing-Lhasa section of the G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway officially started construction in July 2017, with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour, two-way four-lane roads, and a total length of 68 kilometers.

Xu Wenqiang, director of the Transportation Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region, introduced that expressways have always been the main focus in the construction of highway transportation in Tibet.

With the official opening of the Yangbajing-Lhasa section, the open mileage of the Tibet Expressway has been extended from 38 kilometers during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period to the current 688 kilometers.

[Concurrent] Xu Wenqiang, Director of Transportation Department of Tibet Autonomous Region

We are building expressways in snowy plateaus with an average altitude of more than 4000 meters. It is very difficult and there are many technical problems, but we have overcome them. The expressways have brought great convenience to the people.

[Explanation] According to reports, although the Yangbajing-Lhasa section has been opened for trial operation, the service level will not be reduced. Various services such as parking, catering, emergency rescue, vehicle maintenance, and refueling will be provided in subsequent supporting facilities. Improved during construction.

The (Expressway) roadbed is twice as wide, but its transportation capacity may increase several times. This has brought significant changes to our people’s travel, economic and social development, and tourism development.

[Explanation] It is understood that the new reconstruction project of the Naqu-Lhasa section of the G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway is a key project of the Ministry of Transport and the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" highway development plan of the Tibet Autonomous Region, and a major project for the expansion and upgrading of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway.

During its construction, high altitude, complex geology, and difficult construction have become the biggest challenges faced by participating units.

[Concurrent] Hu Yanbin, Project Director of the Yangbajing-Lhasa Section of G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway

This section mainly shows that our national highway and our Qinghai-Tibet Railway are basically parallel. Basically, the route is in a deep canyon. Therefore, our geology is more complicated and the altitude is relatively high. It must have a great test for our physical condition. .

[Explanation] It is reported that with the rapid development of Tibet's economy, National Highway 109 (Qinghai-Tibet Highway) bears the dual pressure of passenger and freight transportation. At the same time, it overlaps with popular tourist routes in Tibet, and the actual traffic volume is increasing day by day.

The completion and opening of the new reconstruction project of the G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway from Nagqu to Lhasa will not only improve the transportation capacity of the Nagqu-Lhasa section, but also improve the service capacity and safety assurance level of this section of the highway, and better meet the regional economic and social development and the public. The need for safe travel.
