Game over.

The strike which had lasted for more than a week at the Tarascon pulp mill (Bouches-du-Rhône) and directly threatened, according to management, the survival of the company, ended Thursday.

The end of the strike comes the day after a big day of demonstrations by actors in the forestry sector, worried about seeing thousands of jobs threatened in the event of the factory filing for bankruptcy, which is one of their main customers. .

Over a million tonnes of wood each year

Owned by the Canadian group Paper Excellence, the Tarascon factory called Fiber Excellence purchases around 1.2 million tonnes of wood each year to produce pulp, according to the Syndicat des exploitants forestiers et Sawyers Alpes-Méditerranée (Sefsam).

The end-of-strike protocol specifies that "if production can resume, the company therefore does not declare the cessation of payment to date to the commercial court as initially envisaged".
