Reporter Kwon Ae-ri's friendly economic time.
Reporter Kwon, there was a story that Korea will enter a super-aged society right away, five years later. Is this true?
Korea is already classified as an aging society.
It is not an aging society or an aging country, but a country that is already quite old.
Over 7% of all citizens over the age of 65 are said to be an aging society, and over 14% are called an aging society. If it exceeds the 20% level, it becomes an ultra-aged society.
It's not just about old, it's about becoming a very old society.
It was 2017 that we became an aging society.
At the time, there were a lot of articles on ``It shouldn't be this way,'' and the issue became big, but after that, the super-aging is getting faster.
It took 17 years from the first entering the aging stage until the aging society was declared, and yesterday (28th), the National Statistical Office estimates that by 2025, people over 65 will surpass 20% of the total population.
It only takes 8 years from old to very old.
Already this year, over 65 are 15.7% of the population.
The actual weight was slightly larger than what was expected at the time of entering an aging society three years ago.
It can be said that population change comes like a tsunami tsunami.
When it first spawns in the far sea, it knows the danger, but there seems to be some time left, but after the waves have speeded up, they will be swept away in the blink of an eye without any help.
It seemed that the super-aged society was still in the far sea, but it is now that we are in front of us.
The increase in the proportion of the elderly to the extent that it is said to be such a sudden has resulted in much less childbirth recently.
Is this also affecting?
The number of Korean-born children is declining more and more rapidly than previously expected, which is also having a big impact.
In particular, this year, in addition to the existing structural problems, we believe that the corona is accelerating the aging of our society as a whole.
The atmosphere of having fewer marriages and having fewer children is becoming an embarrassing trend, but especially in the first half of this year, the number of marriages and births were the lowest ever.
Combined, there are only 142,000 babies born in six months.
Since December 2015, the number of newborns has been decreasing for 56 months. This year, of course, the trend continues, and our entire population has decreased for every month.
There is something called elderly support.
It's looking at the size of the older people who support 100 people of production age, called the working age range from 15 to 64 years old.
This year, this is 21.7.
So, 100 working ages are responsible for 21.7 elderly people.
This is because in just 10 years, it has 38.2 people, and in 2036 it has increased dramatically to 51 people.
If the trend is right now, it is estimated that by 2060 there will be 91.4 per 100 people.
If it goes like this, it's almost one-to-one, but there are only 40 years left.
fact, it is not a problem that can be solved overnight, and we have been saying that long-term countermeasures must be prepared. More than half of the people over 65 now receive national pensions, right?
The super-aged society will have an impact on all aspects of our economy. Today (29th), let's just look at the elderly's retirement preparation situation, which was shown in yesterday's statistics.
Now, 50.9% of people over the age of 65 are receiving public pensions including the national pension.
Half of it is over.
There are too many Korean elderly people who are forced to retire in poverty among the elderly Koreans who are not prepared for their own retirement while supporting their parents and children up and down, although this is still the most serious level among OECD member countries.
However, in recent years, especially for those who are now entering the elderly, the appearance of a more prepared old age than before.
Up to 48.6% of senior citizens are preparing for retirement or are ready.
It's still less than half, but this also increased by nearly 10% compared to 10 years ago.
By the way, more than 60% of elderly males say they are ready, while less than 40% of females are yet.
Yesterday's statistics were like that, but in fact, data showing that the poverty and isolation of the elderly women of the generation, who mainly stayed in the role of supporting their families in their youthful days, are particularly severe are emerging.
And 77% of Korean households, including senior citizens aged 65 or older, have their own homes.
This is the proportion of people with stable housing, but on the other hand, it is also the generation with the highest proportion of real estate in assets among all age groups.
So this means that we are a generation with fewer available assets in our pockets that we can actually use than the so-called sitting money.
Over 77% of all assets are real estate.
