To support the development of next-generation energy-saving semiconductors Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry September 26, 14:13

In order to support the development of next-generation semiconductors with low power consumption, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has decided to provide subsidies to companies and universities working on development.

With the spread of the new coronavirus infection, DX = digital transformation efforts are accelerating to improve the convenience of life and increase the productivity of companies by making full use of digital technology.

On the other hand, as power consumption is expected to increase significantly, how to reduce electricity charges and environmental impact is an issue.

For this reason, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has been supporting the development of next-generation semiconductors that consume less power and are widely used from industrial robots in factories to automobiles and air conditioners.

Next-generation semiconductors that use "gallium oxide" as a raw material can be expected to significantly reduce power consumption compared to conventional semiconductors, so companies and universities are developing them, and they are developing with subsidies. We would like to support and strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic industry.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has decided to include the necessary expenses of approximately 2.1 billion yen in the budget request for the next fiscal year.
