The worst paid activity in Spain is the hospitality industry, a sector in which the average salary is just over 14,300 euros.

And within this area,

the average annual salary for women is even lower: just 12,808 euros

.

The salary structure survey for 2018 published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) shows this, and therefore leaves evidence that one of the sectors that generates the most jobs in Spain is the one in which the worst is paid.

If compared with the average salary, which amounts to 24,009 euros,

the figures for the hospitality industry are 40% lower

.

Regarding the difference between men and women, the situation observed in this sector is invariably repeated in all the others.

"If it is distinguished by occupation and sex,

women had a lower salary than men in all occupations

. The greatest difference occurred in the group of Elementary occupations and the smallest in that of Technicians and scientific and intellectual professionals," he points out. the INE.

In fact, the work also shows that the average salary for men is 26,738 euros for the 21,011 euros for women, so that "

the average annual salary for women was 78.6% for men

."

And "considering the community definition of the structural indicator Wage gap between women and men that uses ordinary earnings per hour worked as the basis for comparison," adds the INE, "the difference in wages by sex stood at 11.3%" .

The most common salary grows 5%

Statistics also points out that those slightly more than 24,000 euros to which the average salary amounts represent an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous year, that is, to 2017. However, there is another increase that is much more relevant and significant: the most frequent salary amounts to 18,468 euros, which represents an increase of 5%.

But even so, the difference between the two references is still wide, of more than 5,500 euros, which "

means that there were few workers with very high earnings, but they had a significant influence on the average,

" says the INE.

The work also includes a description of the composition of the "average monthly salary which, in gross figures, was 1,808 euros".

"The base salary was its main component (68.6%), followed by salary supplements (29.0%). Overtime payments and overtime payments were less important, representing 2.1% and 0, 4%, respectively ", explains the INE.

And "once the contributions to Social Security paid by the worker and the withholdings of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF)

have

been deducted, the

monthly net salary is obtained, which was 1,430 euros

", he concludes.
