Dubai Customs revealed in a statement yesterday that the value of gold and diamond trade through air freight exceeded 67.1 billion dirhams, with a volume of 601.4 tons during the period from the beginning of March to the end of June 2020, noting that it is the period that witnessed strict global precautionary measures to limit the outbreak of the Coronavirus. The new (Covid-19), which indicates the importance of Dubai as a leading global center for the gold and jewelry trade.

Dubai Customs stated, in the latest statistics related to the management of air customs centers for the period from the first of March until the end of June 2020, that Dubai’s trade in gold and diamonds was distributed around 35.6 billion dirhams, in an amount of 428.8 tons (import), and 38.5 million dirhams, in an amount of 877 kilograms. (Transfer within the free zone), 471.7 million dirhams for 2.1 tons for re-export (transit), 29.4 billion dirhams for 161.2 tons for export, and 1.4 billion dirhams for 8.3 tons to enter a free zone.

The total number of transactions for these commercial operations recorded about 31 thousand and 590 transactions, of which 17 thousand and 169 transactions were imported.

The Director General of "Dubai Customs", Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, said that "Dubai Customs", within the framework of Dubai's vision, is working to establish the emirate's position as a city of gold and diamonds, and a strategic hub in the trade of precious commodities.

For his part, Director of the Air Cargo Centers Department, Saleh Al Shamsi, said that the administration provides distinct customs services, as it accounts for the largest share of the trade in gold and precious jewelry, most of which comes through air freight, within the framework of Dubai Customs’s vision of being the customs administration The world leader in legitimate trade.
