The United Nations World Tourism Organization revealed that the spending of international visitors in the Emirate of Dubai reached 21 billion and 800 million dollars (about 80 billion dirhams) during the past year, compared to 21 billion and 375 million dollars (more than 78.6 billion dirhams) in 2018, Dubai alone accounts for about 27% of the total volume of spending in the 10 countries of the Middle East combined that are included in the data.

The organization stated, in its annual report, which Emirates Today obtained a copy of, that the Emirate of Dubai continued to record high rates in the volume of international visitor spending over the past years, as it increased from about $ 8.5 billion (about 31 billion dirhams) in 2010 to 21.8. One billion dollars (more than 80 billion dirhams) in 2019.

International visitor spending

The spending of international visitors is defined as "international tourism receipts", and includes: visitors' payments for goods or services they receive at the intended tourist destination.

The organization indicated, in its report that monitors the performance of global tourism markets, that last year Dubai received about 16.7 million international visitors, compared to 15.9 million visitors in 2018, indicating that Dubai alone accounted for about 27.25% of the total number of international visitors to the Middle East region. As a whole, during 2019 for the countries included in the report.

Dubai alone also surpassed global countries as a whole in terms of international visitor spending rates, such as South Korea, Portugal, Greece, Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Russia, Belgium and Denmark.

The Middle East region received about 61.3 million visitors during the past year, compared to 60.4 million international visitors in 2018, with a growth rate of about 2%, as Saudi Arabia received about 13.6 million visitors in 2019, while Jordan received about 4.4 million visitors, and Bahrain about 3.8 Millions of visitors.

Remarkable growth

The tourism sector in Dubai achieved a remarkable growth during the past year at a rate of 5.1%, as the emirate welcomed more than 16.73 million international visitors, compared with the same period in 2018, surpassing the rate of global tourism growth that the United Nations World Tourism Organization had expected by more than 1%.

The city had maintained its fourth position as the most visited global city for the fifth year in a row, according to the "MasterCard Index of Global Cities Intended to Visit for the Year 2019", and it has also gained wide fame as a favorite destination to visit for various segments of new international travelers.
