Dubai Customs Department has strengthened its efforts aimed at protecting intellectual property rights, by coordinating with diplomatic agencies, to combat counterfeit goods of trademarks from those countries, by enabling trademark owners to recycle counterfeit goods for their trademarks, in order to protect the environment from the harmful effects of destroying counterfeit goods by road Traditional.

The Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at the Dubai Customs held a remote meeting with the diplomatic authorities of France and the United States to enhance cooperation and coordination in the field of recycling of counterfeit goods of French and American trademarks.

The director of the department, Youssef Uzair Mubarak, said that the department is keen to integrate its efforts in the field of combating counterfeit goods through continuous coordination with diplomatic bodies, to inform them of the services and facilities provided by Dubai Customs to trademark owners, with the aim of enabling them to confront counterfeit goods.

He added, "The administration offers trademark owners an alternative option to destroying counterfeit goods by traditional methods harmful to the environment, by coordinating recycling operations for counterfeit goods."

He revealed that the number of trademarks whose counterfeit goods have been recycled since the beginning of 2020 has reached 46 trademarks, while the recycling operations included about 148.7 thousand units of counterfeit goods for these trademarks, with an estimated value of 3.2 million dirhams.

He continued: “Out of our keenness to enhance our role in the field of protecting intellectual property rights, we held a meeting dedicated to developing coordination in the field of recycling counterfeit goods with commercial representatives in French and American diplomatic bodies, who specialize in combating counterfeit goods and protecting intellectual property.”
