Industry experts revealed today that the UAE is strengthening the Middle East and Africa region as the fastest growing market for amusement parks in the world until 2023, with spending in this sector reaching $ 609 million by 2023.

While indoor and outdoor theme parks in the UAE continue to develop and attract millions of visitors from around the world, spending on amusement parks in the region is set to double from $ 266 million in 2018 to $ 609 million by 2023, according to the latest report from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Places Tourist Attraction (IAAPA).

Savita Baskar, Operations Director at Condo Protego, a leading UAE-based IT infrastructure consultancy, information management and technology solutions provider, said: “The numerous theme parks in the UAE continue to support the Middle East and Africa’s position as the fastest growing amusement park market. In the world, as the digital services provided to customers support new levels of safety for guests and employees during the global pandemic.

Most of the amusement parks in the UAE have reopened or are planning to reopen in September, with reduced operational capacity and the application of strict preventive measures to ensure the safety of employees and guests.

For example, Dubai Parks and Resorts and IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai have implemented health and safety measures such as thermal cameras, social distancing and mobility sterilization.

On the other hand, visitors are welcomed with a reduced operating capacity of 30 percent on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, to visit Ferrari World, Warner Bros World and Yas Waterworld.

As the UAE moves to a "new normal" following the pandemic, theme parks in the country and the Middle East are accelerating their digital transformation.

Modern digital solutions help enhance the health and safety of guests and maintain social distancing standards.

The services offered over the Internet, mobile devices and the cloud are seeing strong demand.

Guests of many theme parks can use mobile applications to obtain tickets, obtain facilities, buy gifts from stores, and make payments digitally in order to reduce personal interaction and cash transactions.

The expectations of some future technology enthusiasts have indicated that there will be an increase in the number of virtual amusement parks, which can provide an immersive experience in virtual reality for guests who cannot visit the parks personally.

Savita Baskar added, “While the popularity of mobile applications and digital payments is motivated by social distancing standards, these technologies will rapidly transform into part of the new natural reality in the UAE and the Middle East. Thanks to these technologies, theme parks can gain insights. Better about visitors, provide targeted marketing, and dedicate employees' time to focus on tasks that deliver value. Thanks to the nationwide digital transformation across the UAE, the country has an ideal position to be the global leader in digitizing theme park experiences. "
