• Conference. The Ibex takes the floor to the now 'moderate' Pedro Sánchez: "Today has been very good"

The presidents of large Ibex companies continue to wink at the Government after the theoretical turn to moderation made by the president, Pedro Sánchez.

The presidents of Banco Santander,

Ana Botín

, of Telefónica,

José María Álvarez Pallete

, of Iberdrola,

Ignacio Galán

or of BBVA,

Carlos Torres

, have agreed with the need for pacts as Sánchez now assures and have praised government measures during the crisis.

They have done so during the extraordinary plenary session of the Spanish Chamber chaired by

José Luis Bonet

, who has also asked the political class for "high-mindedness".

The economic vice president,

Nadia Calviño

, has closed it

, who has also complimented the leaders of the Ibex and was delighted with their interventions:

"It is a pleasure to hear how all the speakers value the reaction of the Government

.

"

She too, far from criticizing the bank as other members of the Executive have done in the past, has described its performance in the crisis as "excellent" and has ensured that Spain has a "solid financial system."

Botín has given a new boost to the principles set out by the Prime Minister on the need for unity and transformation of the Spanish economy.

"I am 100% with what the president said on Monday. The debate is how to do it," he

said in a discussion during the extraordinary plenary session of the Spanish Chamber.

The banker assures that few can disagree with the principles set out by Sánchez on the need for pacts and take advantage of the crisis to achieve a more energetically sustainable, more digital, inclusive and more feminist economy, but believes that "work" must be done to achieve it .

He has also praised some government measures: "

The ERTEs and the ICO lines have worked phenomenally

.

"

Torres has affirmed the same and the president of Iberdrola has endorsed the energy transition plans of the fourth vice president, Teresa Ribera.

Pallete has supported the government's digital agenda, but has advised that it be the subject of a pact.

Torres has stressed, however, the need to

"generate confidence to attract investment"

and all in general have asked Calviño for more public-private collaboration to promote the challenges of economic transformation in the country.

Also faster.

Galán and Pallete have called for the implementation of the energy and digital transition agenda more quickly.

"If we don't run, others will run," the Iberdrola president has warned.

The president of Telefónica has also taken the opportunity to demand a change in the rules of the game, because he says he is competing in unequal conditions with the great global technology giants: "

If they are not regulated, deregulate me."

Botín and Torres have highlighted the "essential" role of banking and the need to optimize the investments of the European fund, so that they have a "multiplier effect".

Indra's president, Fernando Abril-Martorell, has supported Calviño's digital agenda, but has been colder

than other intervening parties demanding "a technical and less ideological diagnosis."

In his opinion, digitization, labor flexibility and increased productivity are essential for the Spanish economy to be competitive.

"If not, we will end up competing as so many times in our history with low wages."

He has implicitly defended the labor reform calling for "a work environment with greater flexibility, with more freedom of negotiation and tools to adapt with agility the working conditions (number of jobs, hours worked, teleworking, etc.) to the real activity of each sector and company, with full respect for all rights and guarantees ".

Calviño has not mentioned, like Sánchez on Monday, any plan to repeal the labor reform or raise taxes

.

He stated that "the Spanish economy has begun to reactivate".

He has given as an example that "since April the average monthly membership has risen by 333,000 people", correcting the strange data that he gave on Monday that it had risen by 352,000 only between July and August.
