The self-employed report that 280,000 people from this group have not resumed the activity since confinement or develop it with low income, within the framework of a generalized collapse that they quantify around 60%. Faced with this scenario, the group draws attention to the fact that only 4% of the 3.2 million self-employed in Spain have been able to enjoy the new measures against covid proposed in July, as corroborated by the calculations given released today by the Government. "It's ridiculous. They were launched in a context of activation and have suffered in a very different one due to outbreaks, economic deterioration, for example with the closure of the nightlife sector," says in conversation with EL MUNDO Lorenzo Amor, President of the National Federation of Associations of Self-Employed Workers (ATA)

Today, precisely, the payment of social security contributions corresponding to the month of August is being faced, for which a 50% exemption is eligible . The exemptions are gradually reduced, from the 100% established in July, through 50% this August, to reach 25% in the September payment. The outbreaks, however, have turned these approaches around in a de-escalation key.

But it is the new termination benefit compatible with the activity that seems modest. 142,973 self-employed workers have received this payment, 4% of the self-employed, who have passed the screen to collect benefits in July, August and September . Among the impediments are being a beneficiary of a flat rate for self-employment, previously treasuring some type of quota reduction, accumulating less than a year as a self-employed person or engaging in multiple activities. "Many have directly chosen not to request them," acknowledges Amor, when asked about these restrictive criteria.

Consequently, ATA considers "ridiculous and scarce the benefits granted for cessation of activity " and warns that more than a million self-employed are currently "on the tightrope" due to the drastic drop in activity and income due to covid-19 . This union believes that the measures to boost employment linked to the ERTE should be extended until April 2021, given the appearance of outbreaks in recent weeks.

The cumulative total of 1.49 million

The Social Security has paid this Monday more than 154 million euros to more than 148,000 self-employed workers who have been recognized some of the benefits launched, as the Ministry has communicated.

"With these new recognitions, the extraordinary benefit, which involves the payment of a minimum monthly aid of 661 euros and the temporary exemption from social contributions , has reached almost 1.49 million self-employed workers since the crisis began ," he said. highlighted the Government regarding the accumulated data of benefits.

Within that total, the new benefit for cessation of activity, in force since July 1, covers only 142,973 people, according to the Government's own data . In ATA they believe that this block of benefits, which followed the one in March, has been a limited boost: "Four out of 100 will receive the benefits of special cessation of activity or extraordinary cessation of activity for seasonal freelancers who started the 1st of July". The figure effectively remains around 4% of the total group.

At the end of May, the Executive announced the collection of the extraordinary benefit for more than 1.4 million self-employed, referring then to those enabled in a first package, in March.
