Continue to open the scope of autonomous driving road test in many places——

How far can the intelligent networked car "go"

Recently, many places have continued to open the scope of autonomous driving road testing. Six cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha, Wuhan, and Cangzhou, have opened permits for manned testing. How far is the intelligent connected car from us? What problems are still facing the city to build an autonomous driving environment? How to build an industrial ecology... The reporter interviewed relevant experts and industry insiders.

On August 24, the Guangzhou Municipal Transportation Bureau stated that it had carried out road tests for intelligent networked vehicles, issued a total of 55 test notices, and opened 67 test roads with 135 kilometers. Previously, the Changchun Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology and other three departments jointly issued the "Notice", selecting the corresponding sections of the Changchun Automobile Economic and Technological Development Zone as the test road for intelligent networked vehicles... Recently, many places have continued to open the test range of autonomous driving roads. How far is the intelligent connected car from us? How does the auto industry respond to unprecedented changes in the industry?

Smart car development exceeds expectations

"The direction of the automobile revolution is intelligence and connectivity, which is also the focus of future competition." At the 3rd Global Smart Car Frontier Summit held recently, Chen Qingtai, chairman of the China Electric Vehicles Association, pointed out that the automobile revolution does not proceed in isolation. Parallel to this are the energy revolution, the information revolution, the transportation revolution, and the construction of smart cities. Next, networking and intelligence should be put in a more important position. This is the focus of future competition, and it is also the full use of the automobile revolution to benefit society. necessary.

Chen Qingtai said that in the future, intelligent networked electric vehicles will be the leading core products for energy revolution, information revolution, transportation revolution and smart city construction. It can widely absorb new developments and potentials in new energy informatization, networking, intelligence, big data, new technologies, new materials, electronic power, advanced manufacturing, etc., and become a large platform for integration and innovation of many industries.

At present, with the rapid update of basic technologies, the development of intelligent automotive technology systems has become more complete, and intelligent networked vehicles have more detailed and specific landing scenarios. From L2 to L5, each autonomous driving level has successively developed technologies and product systems with market application prospects. On the one hand, it has enriched the connotation of automobile intelligence, and on the other hand, it has made the speed of intelligent landing exceed expectations.

The national level also attaches great importance to the development of intelligent networked vehicles. In September last year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the "Outline for Building a Powerful Transportation Country", proposing to strengthen the research and development of intelligent networked vehicles (smart cars, autonomous driving, and vehicle-road collaboration) to form an autonomous, controllable and complete industrial chain. In February this year, a number of ministries and commissions jointly issued the "Smart Car Innovation Development Strategy", proposing to follow the trend of the new round of technological and industrial revolution, seize the opportunity of the industrial intelligent development strategy, and accelerate the innovation and development of smart cars.

Under the tide of intelligence, traditional car companies have accelerated their transformation. Chen Hao, vice president of Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. and deputy general manager of Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, revealed that Dongfeng Nissan has introduced Nissan's ProPILOT autonomous driving assistance system and carried out localized development in combination with China's complex and changeable road conditions; and cooperated with Baidu and Alibaba. , Tencent, Huawei and other leading Internet companies to build open and malleable intelligent application platforms, and carry out cross-border ecological cooperation.

According to Feng Xingya, General Manager of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., GAC Group has taken three main actions. One is to focus on core technology research and development to provide smart car products trusted by Chinese consumers; and the other is to focus on building a smart-linked new energy vehicle industrial park. Globally competitive smart car industry cluster; third, open cooperation, win-win symbiosis, and cooperate with upstream and downstream to form a community of destiny.

Vehicle-road collaborative development is recognized

At present, among the cities that have opened up road tests for autonomous driving in the country, six cities that have opened up manned test permits are Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha, Wuhan, and Cangzhou. It is reported that among the cities that open autonomous driving manned tests in the country, there are mainly three companies that actually carry out manned tests of autonomous vehicles and have large-scale fleets (30 or more): Baidu Apollo, Wen Yuan Zhixing / Wen Far Yuexing, Xiaoma Zhixing.

Ran Bin, dean of the Southeast University-University of Wisconsin Intelligent Connected Transportation Research Institute, believes that vehicle-road collaboration is to treat roads and vehicles as a complete system, and use smart roads to make up for the lack of intelligent networked vehicles and improve safety and reliability. And related functions. The development of intelligent vehicles with vehicle-road coordination will soon be able to achieve the third level of autonomous driving.

Feng Xingya also believes that bicycle intelligence + vehicle-road collaborative route is the solution to adapt to the Chinese market. Huge market capacity, innovation in consumer Internet business models, and unique advantages in 5G systems, artificial intelligence, and software talents will give birth to smart cars based on China's ecological industry.

"Although many cities are very active in the development of autonomous vehicles, they have different starting points and different ways of landing. Some cities just want to advertise themselves, and companies cannot participate after they go; some cities don’t know how to do it. Because this industry is too new and too big, it has a lot of blindness to operate." Zhang Yongwei, secretary-general and chief expert of the China Electric Vehicles Association of 100, pointed out that at present, only a single company can "cover the world" and cannot form an industrial ecology.

Zhang Yongwei believes that the solution for autonomous driving cities must be the result of the joint participation of multiple entities in an innovative ecology; a set of promotion mechanisms must be established, not only with the foresight of the city’s decision-makers and the organization of the advancement process, but also the courage to move ahead. Pilot policy and regulatory support.

"What is the testing environment, how long the open roads are, whether there are various types of roads, whether an integrated data platform can be provided, etc., are all important factors in determining whether they can attract enterprises." Zhang Yongwei said that at present, autonomous driving at the urban construction level The environment is facing a lot of challenges, such as focusing on construction and light operation, focusing on data and lack of applications, lack of top-level design, lack of strategic vision, etc. Many tasks need to be further rationalized.

After all, technology is king

Li Qian, vice president of Chinese Express Technology Co., Ltd., said that in the tide of new energy vehicles and smart driving, emerging car manufacturers have accumulated a lot of success and failure experience. He does not agree with the concept of seizing opportunities and believes that companies should work hard. Polish products, algorithms, and architectures, "it should be slowed down."

Currently, intelligent driving technology is in a process of continuous upgrading. Enterprises either prepare for the intelligent infrastructure of bicycles or achieve breakthroughs in the brains of autonomous driving. In the final analysis, they are technology-oriented and technology is king. "Automobile intelligence has many levels, and the development speed will be very fast." Zhong Zhihua, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointed out that if companies do not pay attention to this trend in time, they will definitely fall behind.

Mo Luyi, general manager of Xiaoma Zhixing, believes that autonomous driving technology is in a stage of rapid development and has not yet reached the level of discussion of competition. The entire industry is constantly striving to break through technical difficulties in order to solve the problem of unmanned and large-scale. Any self-driving company that solves any problem is a milestone breakthrough in the entire industry. The entire industry keeps advancing technological advancement to truly discuss large-scale commercial landing.

"Smart cars have shifted from laboratory and demonstration operations to production, and the introduction of new products to the market is also the process of new technologies landing and accepting consumer testing." Feng Xingya believes that at this stage, companies, capital, and the public are no longer confused by the concept. , But has entered a cooling-off period. This is the law for the development and growth of new technologies and new things, and it is also the only way to industrialization.

He said that at this key point of development, the entire industry must be both "cautious" and "daring", strategically radical, and tactically, it should closely follow technological and market development trends, build its own competitiveness, and actively face the development process. Existing difficulties and challenges, and with the help of superior forces, promote the intelligent transformation of the automotive industry.
