Syria was plunged into darkness at dawn on Monday. A large-scale power cut has been reported in recent hours. The reason for this blackout: the explosion of a gas pipeline.

An explosion that resulted in a power cut throughout Syria. Indeed, the country's electricity system relies mainly on the supply of gas and fuel oil. The Syrian authorities claim that it is a terrorist act, without specifying the perpetrators.

This incident is the latest in a series of alleged attacks on public energy infrastructure. Last January, the Syrian government claimed that divers had placed explosives on offshore gas pipelines near a refinery.

For now, the situation seems to be improving. Some plants have been reconnected to provide electricity to vital infrastructure such as hospitals . The current has also returned to several provinces of the country.
