Ibaraki Sakaimachi Agreement with major housing manufacturers in case of disaster 16:38, August 24

Sakaimachi, Ibaraki Prefecture has signed an agreement with a major housing manufacturer in the event of a disaster, and decided to install a mobile home in the town and use it as a temporary home in the event of a disaster.

Sakaimachi, a major housing maker Sumitomo Forestry, and a general incorporated association that is working to spread mobile temporary housing have signed an agreement to cooperate in the event of a disaster.

Based on the agreement, Sumitomo Forestry plans to carry a movable container-type house into a park in the town next month and conduct a verification test to measure the time required for installation.

The mobile housing that was installed will be operated by the town's designated manager, and will usually be used as an accommodation facility for camping, but in the event of a disaster, it will be transported to the disaster area and used as a temporary housing.

It is also expected that the use of domestic timber mixture with high strength and heat insulation called “CLT” will be used for mobile homes, leading to increased consumption of domestic timber.

Sumitomo Forestry Tsukuba Research Institute Director Ichiro Nakajima said, "I think CLT, which is a renewable material such as wood, especially strength, is suitable for temporary housing. I would like to verify the usability." ..

In addition, Mayor Masahiro Hashimoto of Sakaimachi said, "We have been promoting the installation of mobile homes so far, but the cooperation with Sumitomo Forestry, which has branches and distribution networks nationwide using domestic timber, is encouraging."
