Last year, it was estimated that total real estate tax arrears amounted to 270 billion won.

According to the'Status of delinquent tax payments' data submitted by the National Tax Service by Rep. Yang Gyeong-sook of the Democratic Party of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee, the amount of delinquent tax incurred last year was 277.1 billion won.

The amount of delinquent tax incurred in the current year decreased from 164.2 billion won in 2015 to 136 billion won in 2016, then went to 170.1 billion won in 2017, 244.2 billion won in 2018, and 277.1 billion won in 2019. It has increased in succession.

The incidence rate of nonpayment, which means the amount of arrears incurred in the current year compared to the total amount of tax collected in the current year, was 9.5% last year.

This is higher than the 6-7% national tax delinquency incidence rate over the past 5 years.

Rep. Yang Kyung-sook explained, "The high tax delinquency rate is due to the fact that multiple houses are held for speculative purposes without sufficient funding."
