The SAR must now be indicated on all connected devices that are intended to be used close to the body. - IStock / City Presse

Tablets, smartphones, watches and other connected gadgets ... Objects capable of emitting waves invade our daily lives. While the obligation to inform consumers about the absorption rate of mobile telephone devices already exists, it has been extended since July 1, 2020 to all radio equipment.

What is DAS?

By purchasing your smartphone, you may have noticed that the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is entered in the specifications of your device. This information is an index which indicates the power of the energy flow conveyed by the radiofrequency waves absorbed by the user when using his telephone. SAR is measured in watts per kilogram and the permitted values are currently 2 W / kg for the head and trunk, and 4 W / kg for the limbs.

As a reminder, in 2019, the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) specified that waves have proven biological effects on brain activity when the SAR exceeds 2 W. / kg.
Thus, since July 1, 2020, manufacturers are obliged to specify this index on all radio equipment (and no longer only on telephones), intended to be used close to the body. The SAR values must appear in the instructions for use of equipment whose date of first marketing is after July 1, as well as at points of sale, in the immediate vicinity of the equipment concerned.
