At present, the 2020 semi-annual performance reports of my country's three major telecom operators have all been released. The three major telecom operators have expressed that they will increase the construction of 5G base stations during the year. Experts believe that the three major operators have all formed a large amount of capital expenditure on the construction of 5G networks. As the 5G commercial process continues to advance, 5G services will accelerate into the general user group.

As of August 18, after China Telecom announced its 2020 interim results, the 2020 semi-annual performance reports of my country's three major telecom operators have all been released. The data shows that the total revenue of the three operators in the first half of the year reached 734.097 billion yuan, and the total net profit was 73.04 billion yuan.

Among them, China Mobile’s revenue was 389.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.1%, and net profit was 55.8 billion yuan; China Unicom’s revenue was 150.397 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.8%, and net profit was 3.344 billion yuan; China Telecom’s revenue was 193.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase 1.7%, net profit of 13.9 billion yuan.

"Overall, the operating data of the three major operators showed a steady growth in the first half of the year. With the further deepening of 5G network construction and digital industrialization, the informatization construction of industrial digitalization, and the trend of integration of "two industrializations" will continue to strengthen. The development of large operators can be expected, and this is also an important manifestation of China Communications' leading industrial development in the 5G era." Li Zhen, an industrial research analyst at the Innovation Research Institute of Peking University Science Park, said in an interview with a reporter from the Economic Daily.

The base station construction target will be completed ahead of schedule

In late July, Wen Ku, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Director of the Information and Communication Development Department, said that recently, an average of more than 15,000 5G base stations were newly opened every week.

It is understood that at the beginning of this year, the three major operators set the goal to open more than 600,000 5G base stations this year. As of the end of June, three basic telecommunications companies have built and opened more than 400,000 5G base stations nationwide. "According to the current network construction speed of the three major operators, this goal will be achieved ahead of schedule." Li Zhen said.

Previously, China Tower Chairman Tong Jilu revealed at the 2020 interim results conference that as of the end of June this year, a total of 593,000 5G infrastructure construction needs have been undertaken. The operator hopes to deliver 350,000 by the end of June, and the delivery has been completed. Ten thousand.

Telecom operators have expressed that they will increase the construction of 5G base stations during the year. At the financial report meeting, China Mobile stated that while basically maintaining the capital expenditure plan at the beginning of the year, the goal of 5G new base stations will be increased from 250,000 to 300,000; before the end of the year, it will provide commercial services in all prefecture-level and above cities across the country and promote The independent core network will be commercialized during the year. China Telecom also stated that in the fourth quarter of this year, it will appropriately increase the construction of some 5G base stations according to market conditions and changes in demand.

"It can also be seen from the half-year financial report that since 2020 is an important period for 5G deployment, the three major operators have all formed a large amount of capital expenditure on 5G network construction. In the first half of the year, the 5G capital expenditure of the three operators was about 88 billion yuan. More than half of the total expenditure. Among them, China Mobile is 55.2 billion yuan; China Telecom is about 20.2 billion yuan; China Unicom is 12.6 billion yuan." Li Zhen said.

On August 17, Shenzhen announced that it had officially completed the full coverage of 5G independent networking, reflecting the speed of China and Shenzhen on a global scale. This is inseparable from the rapid deployment of 5G base stations. Wang Zhiqin, vice president of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, revealed that China's 5G independent networking will be commercially available in September 2020.

Focus on supporting innovation in seven areas

Xin Guobin, deputy minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, recently stated that the cumulative number of 5G terminal connections in my country has rapidly increased from 66 million at the end of June to 88 million at the end of July, and more and more users are experiencing 5G speed.

In the half-year performance released by the three major operators, the number of 5G users is also the focus of everyone's attention. The data shows that China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom had 947 million, 310 million and 343 million mobile subscribers in the first half of the year, making a total of 1.6 billion. Among them, China Mobile and China Telecom announced the number of their 5G users. China Mobile has 70.2 million and China Telecom has 37.84 million.

"Excluding the number of 5G users of China Unicom, the current number of 5G users in China has exceeded 100 million. This shows that as the 5G commercial process continues to advance, after the'early adopters' craze has subsided, 5G services have begun to enter the general user group. "Li Zhen said.

China Mobile has stated that the net addition of 5G package customers this year will exceed 100 million; China Telecom predicts that 5G application users such as Tianyi Ultra HD, cloud gaming, and cloud VR will grow rapidly; China Unicom said it expects 5G users in the second half of this year Will grow substantially.

The accelerated popularization of 5G terminals is also driving the rapid growth of 5G users. According to data from the China Institute of Information and Communications Technology, in July this year, the domestic market shipped 13.911 million 5G mobile phones, accounting for 62.4% of the mobile phone shipments during the same period; 14 new models were launched, accounting for 35.0% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period . From January to July this year, the cumulative shipments of 5G mobile phones in the domestic market were 77.508 million units, and the total number of new models on the market was 119, accounting for 44.2% and 46.5% respectively. The relevant person in charge of China Telecom said that it is expected that 80% of the mobile phones on the market will be 5G phones within this year.

In order to win users, the three major operators have also worked harder on 5G applications. The financial report shows that China Mobile has launched special services such as ultra-high-definition live broadcast, cloud gaming, and cloud VR for public users, and launched 15 key segments such as 5G smart factories, smart power, smart steel, smart ports, and smart mines for vertical industry customers. Industry Solutions. China Unicom has introduced special services such as HD/4K/8K video, AR/VR, and cloud games to individual users, and focuses on the industrial Internet, smart cities, and medical and health fields for the government and enterprise markets.

Xin Guobin said that in the second half of the year, it will focus on supporting 5G innovative applications in seven areas, including smart medical care, virtual enterprise private networks, smart grids, and vehicle-road collaborative vehicle networking, and promote more and more 5G industry applications to take effect.

Industrial Internet usher in new opportunities

Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, home isolation has become the norm in the first half of the year, resulting in a steady growth in fixed communications business revenue and a continuous narrowing of mobile communications business revenue. The fixed communication business income of the three operators was 236.3 billion yuan, accounting for 34.1% of the total telecommunications business.

Xiang Ligang, chairman of the Information Consumption Alliance, said frankly that from the financial reports of the three major operators in the first half of the year, it can be seen that the growth space of mobile communications is very small or even declining. If 5G is not developed, 4G alone will make it almost impossible to continue mobile communications. There is growth. However, there are greater development opportunities and room for growth in smart homes, cloud services, government and enterprise services, and industrial Internet.

"The three major operators are actively participating in the process of industrial digitization and digital industrialization. The construction of data centers, information networks, and commercial scenarios have also become an important part of the current sources of revenue for operators. The production and life brought by the epidemic The changes in the above methods have spawned more new needs for information services, and operators have also carried out business integration and new business provision, for the B end (enterprise end), G end (government end) and C end (consumer end). The different users of the mobile terminal provide corresponding services." Li Zhen said.

The relevant person in charge of China Telecom also said that from the first half of the financial report, the B-end market has the largest space. In the first half of the year, China Telecom’s industrial digital revenue was 42.9 billion yuan, leading the industry in terms of revenue scale, an increase of 5.1% year-on-year.

The financial report also shows that in the first half of this year, China Unicom's industrial Internet business revenue reached 22.7 billion yuan, an increase of 36% year-on-year, and the proportion of its overall main business revenue increased to 16%. China Mobile's DICT market revenue reached 20.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 55.3%.

Xin Guobin emphasized that in the second half of the year, it is necessary to focus on promoting the transformation of operating companies from network construction, business models to business concepts to meet the needs of development from To C to To B. Organize and implement the 2020 new infrastructure construction project in the "Broadband Network and 5G Field", and be demand-oriented, further enrich and expand application scenarios, test and promote virtual private network technology solutions, expand the scale of the industry, and promote the project to achieve expected results. At the same time, continue to vigorously implement the "5G + Industrial Internet" 512 project to create a benchmark for demonstration applications.

According to predictions by relevant agencies, by 2025, China's digital economy will reach 60 trillion yuan in added value, and software and information service industry revenue will reach 13.1 trillion yuan, with huge market potential. my country's telecom operators still need to actively transform and seize new opportunities for the development of the digital economy to find new growth points.
