The Executive Director of the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector at the Dubai Economy, Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah, confirmed that expanding the scope of consumer protection services in the department to include free zones in Dubai would enhance the consumer experience and preserve their rights in various regions of the emirate, which supports transparency and competitiveness for various companies. This came during the virtual open dialogue, as part of the "Market Dialogue" series organized by the Dubai Economy, titled: "Consumer Rights in Free Zones Under the Focus of Dubai Economy", and shed light on the results and benefits of the agreement signed between the Dubai Economy and the Free Zones Council. In a statement issued yesterday, Lootah pointed out that the agreement has entered into force, and the sector has started receiving complaints from corporate customers in the free zones, indicating that consumers and corporate customers in the free zones can submit complaints in various sectors that are not regulated by other parties.

He noted that receiving complaints is not only limited to consumers inside the country, but tourists can, after leaving the country, or residing in other Emirates, submit complaints.

With regard to e-commerce complaints, Lootah stressed that the consumer must be aware of and differentiate between approved websites and unlicensed social media platforms, in order to avoid fake accounts and deception.

Lootah stated that free zone companies should cooperate with the competent authorities, and work to educate and guide customers on everything related to their rights, by placing posters that clarify the mechanism for submitting complaints, if any.

Regarding the trader, Lootah emphasized that the agreement does not include commercial complaints, but traders in the free zones can raise their complaints to the Dubai economy.
