The US government has stepped up pressure on the Chinese telecommunications manufacturer Huawei by expanding restrictions on the Asian company's access to the production and supply of microprocessors, in addition to adding 38 other Huawei subsidiaries to the 'blacklist' from companies with restricted access to US software and technology.

"The Administration Trump believes that Huawei is an arm of the state monitoring of the Communist Party Chinese (PCC) and have taken measures accordingly , " said in a statement the United States Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo , who has indicated that Decisions made regarding the Chinese company seek "to protect the national security of the United States, the privacy of citizens and the integrity of the 5G infrastructure from the malicious influence of Beijing."

In this way, the State Department has expressed its strong support for the extension of the restrictions applied to Huawei by the Department of Commerce, which will prevent Huawei from circumventing US laws through the production and supply of chips produced with tools acquired from the United States, after the Chinese company has tried to "continuously evade" the more limited veto implemented since last May.

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Department of Commerce announced on Monday the extension of the restrictions to Huawei Technologies and its subsidiaries outside the United States to also include articles produced in the country and abroad from American technology and software.

In addition, it has added 38 other Huawei subsidiaries to the list of entities that are required to have a license for all items subject to export regulations and imposed licensing requirements for any transaction involving subject items. to the export control jurisdiction when Huawei acts as buyer , intermediate or end user.

Attempts to buy semiconductors

"These actions, effective immediately , are intended to prevent Huawei's attempts to circumvent US export controls to obtain electronic components developed or produced with US technology," the Commerce Department explained.

"Huawei and its foreign subsidiaries have expanded their efforts to obtain advanced semiconductors developed or produced from US software and technology in order to meet the political goals of the Communist Party of China," said the US Secretary of Commerce. Wilbur Ross, noting that after restricting their access to US technology, Huawei and its affiliates have worked through third parties to take advantage of US technology in ways that "undermine national security and US foreign policy interests."

In this regard, Michael Pompeo has warned that the United States will continue to restrict most US exports to Huawei and its subsidiaries included in the list of entities. "We urge allies and partners of the United States to join us," he said.

"We will not tolerate the PCC's attempts to undermine the privacy of citizens, the intellectual property of our businesses, or the integrity of next-generation networks around the world," Pompeo said.

Last week, the magazine 'Caixin' announced that Huawei will stop producing its brand of Kirin processors, which it uses in most of its current smartphones and tablets, from September 15th due to the United States sanctions, which ban US chip companies from collaborating with Huawei.
