China News Service, August 17th, National Development and Reform Commission spokesperson Meng Wei said on the 17th that in July, the nationwide electricity consumption increased by 2.3% year-on-year. Among them, the electricity consumption of primary, tertiary, and residential consumption increased by 11.6%, 5.3%, and 13.8% respectively year-on-year; the electricity consumption of the secondary industry decreased by 0.7% year-on-year, mainly due to the increase in power consumption in high-energy-consuming industries such as electricity, building materials, and steel decline.

On the 17th, the National Development and Reform Commission held a regular press conference in August. Meng Wei briefed the approval of power generation and investment projects at the meeting.

In terms of power generation, in July, the national industrial power generation above designated size increased by 1.9% year-on-year. Among them, hydropower, nuclear power, and wind power generation increased by 6.1%, 6.7%, and 23.2% respectively year-on-year, while thermal power and solar power generation decreased by 0.7% and 0.6% year-on-year.

In terms of electricity consumption, in the manufacturing industry, the automobile manufacturing industry's electricity consumption increased by 20.3% year-on-year, furniture manufacturing, computer communications and other electronic equipment manufacturing, general equipment manufacturing, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing, and food manufacturing The volume growth rate is above double digits, with a year-on-year increase of 16.7%, 14.4%, 14.3%, 12.7%, and 11% respectively. In terms of regions, power consumption in 20 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country is growing, among which 8 provinces (regions) in Sichuan, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Guangdong, Tibet, Fujian, Inner Mongolia, and Yunnan have increased by more than 10%.

Meng Wei pointed out that in August, the national daily power generation and unified power load rapidly climbed. On August 3, 10, and 11, the national daily power generation and unified power load hit historical highs. Among them, the maximum daily power generation reached 24.6 billion kilowatt-hours, 686 million kilowatt-hours higher than last year's peak; the maximum total electricity load reached 1.076 billion kilowatts, 24 million kilowatts higher than last year's peak. The two regional power grids in East China and Southwest China and 12 provincial power grids including Tianjin, Shandong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing have accumulated 30 loads of historical highs.

Preliminary analysis shows that the country’s daily power generation and unified electricity load have reached new highs, not only because of the continuous high temperature, sunny and hot weather, which led to the rapid growth of air conditioning load, but also reflecting the continued steady recovery of the national economy.

Meng Wei said that in terms of investment project approval, in July, the Development and Reform Commission approved a total of 11 fixed asset investment projects with a total investment of 38.2 billion yuan, mainly in the fields of transportation and high technology.
