From our special correspondent in Beirut ,   Pierre Olivier

A week after the explosion , the Achrafieh district still bears the scars of the disaster. “  Look! All the apartment windows exploded! There is still blood on the steps! », Describes this inhabitant.

“  We sleep after 3 in the morning. There is someone going up, there are thieves. We're exhausted. We are afraid of thieves because we are on the 1st floor. If we were on the second or third  floor, I wouldn't be afraid, ”testifies this resident who has been sleeping in anguish for seven nights in her room on the 1st floor.

Faced with this distress of the inhabitants, the Lebanese of Tomorrow association voluntarily welds new windows. “  It's a huge job! Our goal is to fix all broken windows so people are safe. We do our best!  », Explains Guy Manoukian, one of the members.

These windows have a high cost. And the residents of this neighborhood could not change them on their own. “  I would have put plastic. I'm already having trouble paying the rent. I had spoken with the owner to lower the price, otherwise I was going to leave  ”. According to the association, in this district of Beirut, more than 80,000 apartments need new windows before winter.
