Cadillac unveiled the Lyriq, its very first electric car model, on Thursday. The vehicle should help the General Motors (GM) group, which owns the brand, to compete with Tesla in this booming market, especially in the United States, reports  Capital .

Unlike the Chevrolet Bolt, a 100% electric model from the GM group already on the market, the Lyriq is aimed at the high-end market. This is an SUV that will carry a new Ultium battery, unveiled by GM last March.

Difficult to match Tesla

Cadillac announces a range of nearly 500 km for its Lyriq, an endurance almost comparable to that of Tesla's Model X but less than that of the Model S, which can travel up to 610 km in a single charge.

This is the first fully-electric Cadillac, the Lyriq. GM says the SUV, which will be able to drive about 300 miles on a single charge, is the first of several all-electric Cadillacs it plans to make as it aims to compete with the likes of Tesla. https://t.co/Ntd7lO9o3K pic.twitter.com/Rm0TPqGj5g

The Lyriq will also have the Super Cruise system, an autonomous driving aid. The vehicle can also park on its own even if the driver is outside the passenger compartment. So many technologies already well mastered by Tesla.

A studio in a car

Inside, Cadillac has relied on an 84 cm wide screen as the dashboard and a 19-speaker audio system signed by AKG Acoustics. What to transport the occupants of the vehicle in "a recording studio", according to the chief engineer of audio design at Cadillac, cited by the Guide de l'Auto .

Cadillac's electric SUV will not be produced until 2022. General Motors has also announced that by 2030, most of the luxury brand's models will be electric. The group's objective is to release 20 models of 100% electric vehicles by 2023.
