Unicharm's interim financial results record high operating profit 18:40 on August 5 due to mask demand

As a major daily necessities maker, Unicharm, the interim financial results from January to June showed sales and operating income as demand for masks and wet tissues for disinfection expanded due to the spread of new coronavirus infection. It was the highest ever for this period.

This is Unicharm's half-year interim financial results from January to June. Sales increased by 4% from the same period of the previous year to 356.5 billion yen, and operating income increased by 41%. Sales and operating income reached a record high for this period, at 55.3 billion yen.

This is because the spread of the new coronavirus increased the sales of masks by 3 times from the same period of the previous year, and the sales of sanitary wet tissues also increased by 1.5 times, and the demand for hygiene products expanded. ..

However, since a fire broke out at a factory in India such as disposable diapers in June this year, damage to production facilities was recorded as a loss, so the final profit was 23.8% lower than at the same time of the previous year. It remained at 100 million yen.

At the financial results briefing on May 5, Unicharm President Takahisa Takahara said, "We are planning new capital investment for masks from autumn to next year in preparation for the second and third waves of the spread of infection. We don't have enough, so we want to establish a solid supply system."
