Expert Meeting on Mercari Mask High Price Resale Problem New Corona July 30 17:22

Mercari, a major flea market app, has decided to establish an expert meeting and summarize future response guidelines based on the problem of reselling masks and other items at high prices due to the spread of the new coronavirus.

Due to the spread of new coronavirus infections, there were a number of cases where masks and disinfectants were resold at high prices at flea market apps and auction sites, and each company took measures to prohibit listing.

Mercari recognizes that unprecedented transactions and troubles have occurred as a result of the spread of infection, and has established a conference of experts to discuss future actions and the social role of the flea market app.

The eight members, including corporate ethics and economics specialists, will analyze the transactions and troubles this time in detail, and will compile a response guideline in September.

Associate Professor Mitsuhiro Umezu of Keio University, who chairs the conference, held a press conference and said, "I would like to discuss what is good use and what is abuse of the flea app and confirm the principles."

Mr. Hirohisa Tamenagi, director of Mercari, said, “There have been a lot of issues facing us due to corona. We would like to discuss the definition of resale and think about how we can contribute to society and industry.”
