The imposition of quarantines between European countries by the covid-19, such as those of the United Kingdom or Norway, on travelers from Spain, places the tourism sector in the worst of the three scenarios foreseen by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) , in which up to 197.5 million jobs are put at risk globally this year, 2.3 in Spain.

In an interview with Efe, its president, Gloria Guevara, recalled that WTTC had foreseen, in early June, that in the event that the required support to the sector had not been given and the restrictions would continue until the end of the year, in the 76.4 million more jobs would be lost in the world than in the scenario considered in the latter, in which restrictions began to decrease as of summer for domestic travel and, since September, for long distance.

In Spain, 2.3 million jobs are at stake in 2020 , 878,000 more than the 1.45 million that could be lost in the previous scenario and more than double compared to the 1.1 million best of the three, with the easing of long-distance restrictions from August.

.

For Guevara, the decision of the British Government to impose a quarantine on all travelers arriving from Spain, " unfortunately, generates instability and uncertainty and has a great impact" also for the United Kingdom itself, where the number of jobs that are put into risk goes from 1.9 million to 2.8 million.

In addition, the head of the WTTC is concerned that "the issue becomes politicized and people start to think reciprocally," quarantine being the main damage to tourism because the mistrust it generates makes people even more afraid of being trapped in a country to catch.

devastating decision

The British quarantine, which was also announced without giving notice, is "devastating" for the sector and represents "an unprecedented cannon shot," said Guevara, according to whom, it is "a step backwards" in what had already been advancing in the recovery, after the appearance of the pandemic.

The measure has caused many cancellations of trips not only from the United Kingdom to Spain , but also in the opposite direction.

If the British Government wanted to impose a quarantine on travelers from Spain, "it should have done it in a more localized way and not include the entire country, since the Canary and Balearic Islands or Andalusia are fine," he stressed.

Currently, some countries, such as Iceland, have replaced quarantines with rapid tests for coronavirus on arrival and, if a tourist tests positive, they are placed in isolation, while, with a negative, they are allowed to visit the destination.

According to Guevara, Spain is going to be seriously affected by the decision of the British authorities in the short term , although at the same level as the rest of the countries, including the United Kingdom itself, which will cost to recover demand because the imposition of forty "It is like saying that tourists are not welcome."
