Pedro Sánchez has presented this Thursday one of the first programs that will be largely financed by European aid approved this week for economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the Digital Spain 2025 Plan. With it, the Government intends to mobilize 140,000 million euros of investment, public and private, over the next five years to promote the digitization of the country. As the President has said, this will be one of the "basic pillars" for recovery after the enormous crisis generated.

The plan will include the investment of 70,000 million (40,000 public and 20,000 private) in the first three years. And about 70,000 seconds in the following biennium. Of those 20,000 million public, 15,000 will come from European reconstruction funds.

Senior executives from technology companies, such as the Chairman of Telefónica, José María Álvarez Pallete, have participated in the presentation, which took place at the Palacio de La Moncloa; the general director of Microsoft Spain, Pilar López; Netflix Vice President for Europe, Middle East and Africa, María Ferreras; as well as the president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, José Luis Bonet, and the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, who has entered via videoconference.

The Government's objective is for Spain to "take the lead" in digitizing the European Union because "Europe wants to be at the forefront of the world in digitization and Spain wants to be at the forefront of Europe," according to Sánchez.

This will also be one of the main pillars for recovery and for companies and citizens to be more and better prepared for eventualities such as those experienced this year. This has also been highlighted by several of the senior executives who have spoken at the Barceló de Moncloa Room.

The plan has 10 major objectives. Among them, "guarantee adequate digital connectivity for 100% of the population", regardless of their place of residence. And that Spain "continues to lead the deployment of 5G technology in Europe".

In addition, the Government wants to promote the digitization of small businesses and public administrations. The goals are that in 2025, 25% of SMEs will email and create a National Entrepreneurship Office. As for the Administration, the Executive proposes that in five years, 50% of the State's public services - Government, Autonomous Communities and municipalities - can be managed through a mobile APP.

For Sánchez, "the pandemic has made us aware as a society of the meaning and urgency of some ongoing reforms that today cannot be postponed", and two fundamental are the digital revolution and the ecological transition. "Neither one nor the other there is a vaccine," he said, "if we do not respond positively to these challenges."

On the government side, the third vice president and minister for economic affairs, Nadia Calviño, have accompanied the president; the Minister of Education, Isabel Celaá; the head of Industry, Reyes Maroto, and the Minister of Science, astronaut Pedro Duque.
