The terrible consequences on French growth of the health crisis linked to the coronavirus continue to be seen a little more every day. The declarations of hiring of more than one month, except temporary, record in the second quarter of 2020 a historic drop of 40.1%, indicated this Wednesday the Central Agency of the organizations of social security (Acoss).

Permanent contracts fell by 43.7%

All types of contracts are affected. These bad figures indeed concern fixed-term contracts (-36.6%) and, even more markedly, permanent contracts (-43.7%). In total over one year, the hiring declarations of more than one month show a net decline of 43.5%, “under the effect of the drop in hires on permanent contracts (- 45.7%) and those in Fixed-term contracts of more than a month (- 41.3%), ”says Acoss. The month of April, weighed down by confinement, is the one that recorded the strongest decline (-72.2% over one year). May's drop was 49.5% while that of June was 9.0%.

In detail, the drop in the second quarter of 2020 concerns both companies with less than 20 employees and larger structures. "The declarations of hiring of more than one month decrease by 36.1% in the TPE and by 42.8% in the companies of 20 employees or more", according to the figures of the Agency. This specifies that over the period, the number of hiring declarations lasting more than one month contracted in all sectors: - 42.1% in the tertiary sector, -37.2% in industry and finally -27.1% in the construction industry. Over one year, the decreases were respectively 45.2%, 40.8% and 29.3%.
