Ulva farmers in special clothes hooked their waists and lowered their heads. They skillfully put away floating leaves and water plants in the water, and quickly picked pieces of newly-emerged Ulva in their hands... This is the reporter's 20th. In Wanshengba, Huangshui Town, Shizhu County, Chongqing, I saw the Ulva vulgaris farmers picking brasenia vulgaris. In twos and threes, they were active in the Ulva vulgare fields and enjoyed the joy of harvest.

The slow development of "water ginseng" is low in value

Brasenia is delicious and tender. It is a precious aquatic vegetable and a wild plant under national first-level protection. It is known as the "water ginseng". Due to the strict requirements for the growth environment of wild Brasenia fragrans, its area is gradually shrinking, and it has been included in the national key protected endangered plant list.

Chongqing Shizhu, the "Hometown of Brasenia in China", currently has more than 4,000 Brasenia growers with a planting area of nearly 14,000 mu, making it the world's largest Brasenia production base. In the past, due to low market awareness, slow product development, low purchase prices, and gradual reduction of artificial planting areas, the nature of Brasenia vulgaris was seriously degraded.

"The edible brasenia is a young leaf that grows underwater. It must be picked manually and bent over for dozens of hours in the water to get tens of kilograms." It has been planted in Huangshui Town, Shizhu for 20 years. Chen Guorun of Brasenia is 46 years old this year. According to her recollection, when the price of Brasenia is the lowest, he only sells for 80 cents per catty. He spends more than ten hours in the water every day and works hard for only a few dozen yuan.

As Shizhu Brasenia expands the planting scale, more and more villagers increase their income. Photo courtesy of interviewees

"When the price of Brasenia cepacia was low, there was a wave of work in the village. For the brasenia cepacia that has not been taken care of for many years, there will be more and more water weeds and insects, the plants will gradually degenerate, and the branpa cepacia fields will gradually be abandoned." Chung Nong Chen Daishu was the first person to grow Brasenia in the village. He told reporters that it would be difficult to take care of the endangered plants on the shoulders of the older generation of Ulva farmers.

The purchase price of digitally empowered Shizhu Brasenia doubled

In 2015, the state implemented the national geographical indication registration protection for "Shizhu Brasenia".

It is understood that in recent years, Shizhu County has continued to innovate and develop measures while paying close attention to the development of Brasenia cepacia industry. At the end of 2018, Hema Xiansheng settled in Chongqing and discovered the value of “water ginseng”. He decided to bring Brasenia officinalis out of the mountains and market it. Shizhu Brasenia began to move towards Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Suzhou and other cities.

The planting area of Brasenia vulgaris has expanded and the output has increased, but Brasenia vulgaris is only used as a vegetable, and the added value of the product is still very low. How to improve the economic benefits of farmers? Shizhu introduced Chongqing Panpopo Brasenia Technology Co., Ltd. to build a production base, began to research and develop Brasenia deep-processed products, and developed Brasenia mask and beverages. A complete set of empowerment system has allowed Shizhu Brasenia to complete the transformation from agricultural products to commodities to brands. The purchase price has also risen from 2.5 yuan per catty to 5.6 yuan, and the output value per mu of growers has exceeded 10,000 yuan.

"Now the purchase price has doubled several times compared to the past." Chen Guorun remembered clearly that she picked a day's brasenia and brought it back to the purchase station, which could be exchanged for more than 500 yuan, which is equivalent to her husband's three-day wages in the local area.

At the same time, the extensive production of brasenia in the past has also shifted to refinement. "I have been dealing with Brasenia for the first time for the first time, knowing that shallow water, acidity or alkali will affect the quality of Brasenia." Chen Guorun told reporters that she can see the water and soil quality data of Brasenia field from environmental monitoring equipment. , And even know how much rain this year, these are the basis for experts to guide them scientific intervention.

Recently, Alibaba Digital Agriculture cooperated with the People's Government of Shizhu County in Chongqing to establish Hema Village at the Brasenia Demonstration Bases in Lengshui Town and Huangshui Town, Shizhu. Because Brasenia is an aquatic plant, the locals spontaneously changed the name to Water Hema Village.

"As much as the farmers produce, we will collect as much." This is the promise of Alibaba Digital Agriculture to Ulva farmers. Through digitalization, the two ends of supply and marketing are opened up. Brasenia has the wings of order agriculture, and its anti-risk ability has also been strengthened.

"Whether it is Brasenia branpa or Brasenia brevis, you can find the value of life through digitalization and marketization." Hou Guoyan, secretary of the Wanshengba Community Residents Committee in Shizhu, Chongqing, said that the planting area of Brasenia fragrans has increased from 8,000 mu to 14,000 acres, a variety of varieties have also been developed, and it is planned to expand to 20,000 acres within the year.

“Breast edulis has not only become a poverty alleviation industry, but also promoted the development of the local tourism industry. Enjoying the scenery of Brasenia, experiencing the picking of Brasenia, tasting Brasenia delicacies, and purchasing Brasenia products have become the first choice of the majority of tourists." Hou Guoyan said.
