It must be delivered in time for the Paris Olympics. Greener, more spacious, more modern, less expensive to maintain ... The gestation of the "train of the future" TGV M progresses before leaving the factory and putting it into service scheduled for June 2024, said SNCF.

Four years after the launch of the project, the first "cauldron", the exterior envelope of the train, was presented on Thursday in Alstom's workshops in La Rochelle. Thereafter, the trains will be assembled in Belfort.

M for modernity

"It is a train that will run for the Olympic Games" scheduled in Paris in 2024, told AFP the director of SNCF Travel, Alain Krakovitch, adding that the first deliveries of models ordered from Alstom will take place in winter 2023 .

TGV "M", because the qualities of this train begin most of the time with this letter, argues Alain Krakovitch. At the forefront, "modernity". It will be possible in particular to configure the interior fittings, transform a first class into a second, and as well to operate in Inoui format as in Ouigo format, the TGV at low cost, he specifies.

The mobility of the TGV M will allow people with disabilities to be able to board fully independently, without the need for any assistance, including on the train floor, thanks to a rotating and lifting platform. The toilets will also be redesigned, emphasizes the SNCF.

More passengers on the trains

The train will also be able to accommodate 740 passengers, 20% more than current trains. Ecology will finally have a special place in this train with 97% recyclable materials, reducing CO2 emissions by 32%, energy consumption by 20% and maintenance costs by 30%.

On the practical side for future travelers, the bay windows will be widened, the lighting will be adjustable and the air conditioning system "smarter", we tell the SNCF.

Smart also in terms of connection, since this train must offer users a wifi service, remote control, and internet network capable of adapting to innovations.
