Shandong Jimo is one of the main sea cucumber breeding areas in my country.
In October 2019, it is the cultivation period of sea cucumber seedlings. The reporter came to the Castanopsis arvensis breeding base, where there are nearly a hundred sea cucumber farmers, large and small, in the grass beside a pond, stacked nearly a hundred glass bottles, which read: Dichlorvos.
How come there are so many used dichlorvos empty bottles? The farmer admitted that in order to remove other organisms that are not conducive to the growth of sea cucumbers, he just added a lot of dichlorvos to the pond. "With dichlorvos, this used 8 boxes, that used 9 boxes, and this used 20 boxes."
Farmers told reporters that the areas of these used dichlorvos are 24 mu, 26 mu and 50 mu, respectively.
The reporter noticed that each box of dichlorvos weighed 6 kilograms. According to the farmers, the reporter roughly calculated that about 2 kilograms of dichlorvos were used in each acre of pond.

Can dichlorvos be used for sea cucumber breeding?
According to my country's pesticide management regulations: pesticide users shall not expand the scope of pesticide use. The use of dichlorvos obviously does not include sea cucumber breeding.
However, a reporter's investigation in Jimo, Shandong found that the use of dichlorvos in sea cucumber breeding is very common.

Hang Seng Yuan is one of the largest sea cucumber breeding bases in the local area. It has hundreds of sea cucumber breeding ponds. In this base, farmers have told reporters that they contracted the ponds here at a price of more than 2,000 yuan per mu.
In the grass next to a sea cucumber breeding pond, there are also piles of empty bottles of dichlorvos.
The farmer also admits that he often uses dichlorvos: "Dichlorvos, I made three or four boxes of fish and shrimp in a pond."

Farmers told reporters that the seawater that had used pesticides would also be discharged back into the sea.

02 Random sale of raw antibiotic powder

At this time, some antibiotics were needed to prevent it.
The reporter asked: "Do we use oxytetracycline for sea cucumber?"
The veterinary drugstore owner replied without hesitation: "Use, kill insects."
The boss opened the warehouse door and filled some yellow powder from a big barrel in the corner. The outer packaging of the barrel said: Oxytetracycline. The boss told reporters that this is the original powder of oxytetracycline: "This is the original powder, which contains 98%."
Due to the high concentration of veterinary drug powder, it is easy to cause toxic and side effects and food safety problems when used.

Some greenhouse sea cucumber farmers also secretly told reporters that they often used various raw powders of veterinary drugs such as antibiotics in the breeding process.
A farmer pointed to the yellow powder on the edge of the pond and told reporters: "This is oxytetracycline, the oxytetracycline used."
A veterinary drugstore operator told reporters: "Mix antibiotics, they are all used stolenly, some are checked and pollute water quality.
Another veterinary drugstore operator admits: "If it is troublesome to use the original powder to be found, it is now a sentence."
03 There are articles on the cultivation of sea cucumbers
In November 2019, when it was time for sea cucumber seedlings to emerge, the reporter came to Jimo, Shandong again, and found that most of the merchants from the south came to buy sea cucumber seedlings here.
A sea cucumber farmer told reporters: "Miaozi let Fujian customers book in advance."
Another sea cucumber farmer told reporters that he also farmed sea cucumbers in the south: "In Xiapu."
Why do sea cucumber seedlings cultivated in Jimo have to spend a lot of time to pull them to the south for breeding?
The practitioner revealed to the reporter a little-known industry secret. Due to the low water temperature in the north, sea cucumbers require a growth period of 3 to 5 years, while the high water temperature in the south, the sea cucumbers will grow quickly, generally after three to five months. You can fish the finished product.
After the sea cucumber is grown, it will once again be drawn back to the northern market for processing and sales.
An industry source admits that southern sea cucumbers will also be shipped to the north for sale: "Basically, the north has gone, and the sales are all based on northerners. In the market, 80% are southern sea cucumbers."

The People's Republic of China Fisheries Industry Standard "Dried Sea Cucumber" clearly stipulates that among the food additives for processing dried sea cucumbers, only salt is allowed, and other food additives are not allowed.
The factory owner admits that it is a common thing to add materials while working in the sea: "I usually add five or six pounds, six or seven pounds."
The factory owner told reporters that sea cucumbers should be soaked in such a liquid containing maltodextrin for three days, and then dried and dried sea cucumbers were sold after washing and drying. The industry called this sea cucumber processed with maltodextrin It’s dry: “It’s dry, it’s pure dry.”
Why is it soaked with maltodextrin during the processing of dried sea cucumbers? The factory owner revealed the secret to the reporter: "Pure materials dry, about 20 pounds of live sea cucumber dry one pound, pure and light dry dry about 30, 278 to 312 pounds dry one pound, that is Do a pound for about thirty pounds."
