On July 16, after more than four years of hard work by the builders, the 10,000-meter long tunnel of the China-Laos Railway, Tongda Tunnel, was successfully opened, half a month earlier than expected.

The Tongda tunnel has a total length of 11.3 kilometers. There are unfavorable geology such as water gushing, high ground stress and high geothermal. It is a high-risk tunnel with high safety risk and difficult construction.

The water in the cave forms a waterfall, which can fill 17 standard swimming pools every day. Every time you enter the cave, you will get "wet", and water, sweat, and mist will be inextricably intertwined. The temperature of more than 50 degrees Celsius in the cave, after working for a while, you have to cool down and rest in the air-conditioned room.

The construction unit shortened the construction time of each shift to 3 hours. More than 20 batches of workers took turns to carry out 24 hours of uninterrupted construction on 7 working surfaces. The construction plan of "long tunnel short hit" was adopted to take targeted measures to ensure the progress of construction.

It is reported that the Tongda Tunnel is the 73rd through 93 tunnels in the domestic section of the China-Laos Railway. At this point, the domestic section of the China-Laos Railway tunnel project has been completed by more than 95%, laying a foundation for the entire line to be opened to traffic.
