The Minimum Wage Committee resolved the minimum wage for next year to 8,720 won per hour, up 130 won from this year.

This is a 1.5% increase from last year, the lowest rise since the introduction of the minimum wage system in 1988.

In terms of salary, it is 182,480 won.

The Minimum Wage Committee, which began the meeting yesterday afternoon, voted the proposed 1.5% increase by the public interest committee around 2:00 AM today (14th) after an overnight discussion.

Previously, the KCTU declared yesterday that the employers' committee had refused to attend the meeting by adhering to the cut-off plan, and the KCTU also opposes the public interest committee and left early today.

Eventually, a vote was made without all of the workers' committee members absent, and the proposal for the public interest committee was finalized.

The public interest committee members explained that the highest priority was to keep jobs in the Corona 19 disaster, and decided to increase the number of workers considering the improvement in the cost of living, inflation rate and economic growth forecast.

The proposed minimum wage for next year, which is resolved today, is subject to an appeal process and announced by the Minister of Employment and Labor on the 5th of the following month, and will take effect from January 1 of next year.
