Fight against Covid-19 in Israel: new measures far from unanimous

More than a thousand new cases a day, a record. The coronavirus strikes very hard in Israel and the government is taking new measures which are not unanimous.

The numbers speak for themselves. The number of patients has doubled in 10 days, severe cases are clearly increasing. We must act quickly, proclaims Benjamin Netanyahu. And the Israeli Prime Minister brandishes the threat of reconfinement: “  The situation is urgent. If we cannot stop the epidemic we will have no health and no savings. And many Israelis will lose their lives. We must do everything to avoid this.  "

From 8 a.m. on Monday morning, gatherings are limited to 50 people in bars, reception halls and also places of prayer in Israel. Later in the morning the government should consider further restrictions, this time for beaches and restaurants.

Measures that provoke anger because they are not accompanied by immediate compensation. And for Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid, these are illogical decisions that will bankrupt thousands of small businesses.
