Small and medium-sized enterprises Wage increase 18 points less than the previous year Impact of new corona 6:10 on July 2

38% of SMEs nationwide raise wages this year, a decrease of more than 18 points compared to the previous year, and the spread of the new coronavirus infection greatly affects the wages of employees of SMEs. But, it turned out by the survey of the Japan Chamber of Commerce.

The Japan Chamber of Commerce conducted a survey on business conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises nationwide from the 15th to the 19th of last month, and received responses from 2117 companies.

As a result, when asked if this year's "regular wages" for regular employees, including basic salary and housing allowances, would be raised, 38% of the total "went" and "planned" would result. Compared to the fiscal year, it decreased by 18.7 points.

This is because the spread of the new coronavirus has forced many small and medium-sized enterprises to reduce production and close their stores, resulting in a drop in sales.

On the other hand, 43.7% of the companies answered that they would maintain the current level, and only 3% answered that they would reduce wages.

The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, "I have found again the reality of small and medium-sized enterprises that are unable to aggressively raise wages due to the spread of infection. However, even in difficult business conditions, many companies aim to secure wages I would like to provide assistance."
