In the report by the NGO Mwatana, former prisoners and their families testify to violations committed in illegal places of detention. Thousands of violations have been committed by all parties to the conflict in Yemen.

The conflict in Yemen has been going on for almost six years and the violations committed in detention have taken place from the beginning, it is not a surprise, and some of these violations are potentially war crimes," explains Kristine Beckerle, legal director of the 'NGO Mwatana.  We are talking about torture, kidnappings, sexual violence, attacks on human dignity. These potential crimes are repeated and committed by all parties to the conflict in Yemen : the Houthis of Ansar Allah, the separatists of the Southern Transitional Council, forces loyal to the Yemeni government. And from the start, there has been no established responsibility for any of these abuses in detention.  "

The Yemeni NGO Mwatana denounces the total impunity enjoyed by those responsible for these abuses. She also calls for the release of the detainees, at a time when the Covid-19 epidemic is raging in Yemen and making the prisoners even more vulnerable.
