The president of Enagás, Antonio Llardén, has defended the signing of former ministers José Montilla and José Blanco, as well as the scientist linked to Podemos Cristóbal Gallego, due to the need to strengthen the group's board of directors "in exceptional circumstances and with consequences difficult to foresee "linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

Llardén, president of the energy group since 2007, has defended that the proposed profiles - promoted by the Government - "do not lack experience or knowledge of the energy sector", and has referred to the documentation signed by the appointments committee that directs the also former minister Ana Palacio.

Enagás has had to expand the number of directors to 16 seats, above the CNMV's recommendations for good governance, to make room for the three new signings. This modification will have an additional cost of 400,000 euros per year and precisely for the benefits of this decision, one of the group's shareholders asked at the Meeting.

The candidates have obtained the backing of the shareholders, among which the Spanish State and Amancio Ortega stand out, with respective shares of 5%, despite the fact that the main worldwide vote advisers for investment funds questioned the incorporations due to the excess of politicians in the group's supervisory body. One of these institutions, Glass Lewis, even went so far as to recommend voting against the proposals.
