The IIHS investigated 79 traffic accidents that took place in Michigan. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that at over 30 km / h, SUVs cause more injuries to pedestrians than conventional cars. Worse, between 32 and 63 km / h, 30% of accidents involving SUVs were fatal for pedestrians, while they are only up to 23% with normal cars. Naturally, the higher the speed, the more lethal the SUVs: all collisions at more than 64 km / h were for pedestrians, against 54% of collisions with classic cars.
