"It is a death warrant". In Lannion, Nokia employees are in shock. On Monday, their employer announced the abolition of a third of Alcatel-Lucent's workforce, or 1,233 jobs in France, including 402 on the Costa Rican site, bought in 2016. Others mention "a blow." Among the 250 employees present in front of the company on Tuesday as among local elected officials, the feeling of betrayal is palpable.

“We weren't aware. Last week, I again asked four members of my team to work on Saturdays to advance the current project, ”explains Jean-René, 56, an employee for almost 30 years. "I have escaped the three previous PES (job safeguard plan) since 2016, but there, I think I will be entitled to it." For many, this announcement was like a cold shower. “During the confinement, we received a lot of positive messages from management about new contracts that were falling, the quality of our work… All with great kindness. Here, benevolence, we forgot it, "quipped Sylvain, who, without being targeted by the new plan, has the feeling of being suspended. "We are still needed, but until when?" "

Already three social plans in four years

Since the acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent by Nokia in 2016, the three PES have targeted “support functions”, these ancillary activities necessary for the proper functioning of a business, but not the core business. This time, Research and Development (R & D) is hit hard: "95% of the 402" job cuts announced, said Bernard Trémulot, CFDT central delegate. "Until now, we were removing support functions, but at the same time, we were hiring engineers, so that the workforce remained stable." The positions cut in Lannion will be relocated abroad, according to the unionist. "It is a death warrant. The feeling we have is betrayal. Nokia is abandoning France and the Lannion site ”.

🔴 The announcement of the elimination of more than 400 jobs by #Nokia in Lannion is a blow against the employees, against Lannion and its know-how, against #Brittany.
Nokia needs to freeze its plan and start discussions before going any further.

The future of the territory, which has specialized in telephony for decades, is what worries elected officials: "400 jobs lost, that's 10% of industrial employment in Lannion", recalls Joël Le Jeune, president of Lannion Trégor Community (LTC). “I am fed up with each PES to start a new reclassification unit (…) We believe in this site. Companies know that we can count on us, we have shown it. When Nokia built three new buildings (in 2018), we believed in it! "
