Marcos has managed to enter Terminal 4 in Barajas showing his brother's boarding pass, which arrives from Amsterdam and is going to pick him up. In theory, only passengers can access the terminals and, in fact, on the street there are groups of people waiting for their families with welcome banners.
"I went to T2, but there they told me that all flights arrive at T4, and I showed the screenshot of my brother's boarding pass and they let me through . I didn't even know it couldn't happen but people security must be in trouble, "he explains.
Marcos is, in fact, the only non-passenger who has managed to sneak in to wait on departures for the arrival of his relative. The rest of the people who circulate through the T4 terminal in Barajas (at the moment, the only one that is operational, because when the state of alarm was declared, the others were disabled due to the lack of flights) are passengers or journalists.
Yesterday, the Schengen area was opened and the Madrid-Barajas Airport has launched new pandemic control measures promoted before the reopening of the EU's borders.
In Spain these controls consist of a temperature control on arrival and a visual recognition. In addition, the passenger has to fill out a form (now it is in writing but later it will be done through an application) with their data and in which they certify that they do not have Covid symptoms. The objective is that it can be traced in case of contagion.
Controls are coordinated with EU states with recommendations from the Commission itself, the European Aviation Safety Agency, airport and company associations.
Out of control
"They only checked me on arrival, the questionnaire and they told me that they take our temperature even though it was not with a pistol, I imagine that with cameras," says Alvaro, who was flying from Amsterdam, where, he explains, they have not done no control and where "people went to the airport quietly without a mask, even though it is supposed to be mandatory," he says.
"It was much more crowded than Barajas," he adds. And regrets that there are no more measures also at the airport of origin. "They should have done more checks on us there too, you have the impression that no measures are being taken," he says.
Many passengers overlook temperature control because it is done through cameras, not a gun . "They have not taken our temperature, and if they have, we have not found out," says Paula, who comes from London, where, in the midst of de-escalation, she went to work as an au pair.
Several passengers criticize the lack of measures at London airports. "They have not carried out any type of control there, not even to access the airport, " says this young woman, who, in fact, entered the aerodrome without a boarding pass and spent the night there because her flight was leaving early.
"On the plane there was no distance, we were all stuck in the seats," he laments. The European Commission does not oblige airlines to leave a free seat in each row , considering that the air filtration system that aircraft have ensures that the virus does not circulate inside the aircraft.
